Drying increases grain harvest

An East Anglia farmer who specializes in growing oats, barley and wheat was becoming increasingly frustrated with wet weather around harvesting time in August and September. After a rainy spell, he had to wait until the crops had dried out before harvesting. To take advantage of the drier conditions, he would then have to consider the gamble of hiring more combines and labour to get the harvesting done before the next downpour.

As well as the financial impact, the delays involved damage to the crop from the weather and from wildlife depredation, the risk of moisture causing problems in storage, and a later start to his weed control programme.

With an Aridair unit, harvesting and threshing can take place when the grain's moisture content is as high as 20%. Harvesting can begin earlier, and the grain is dried under controlled conditions. This results in higher weight crops at a better quality. And spoiling from moisture or infestation during storage is eliminated.
