Escape of water from loft tank

This bungalow, worth about £450,000, had been left unoccupied after the owners went abroad for a year.

There had been a leak from a water tank in the loft back in January - it was now May!

The leak had been dealt with by a plumber, who switched off the water, but the property was left saturated.

The carpets were still squelching when we arrived to assess the damage.

Interior showing damage The scene on the inside was like an alien planet. There were mushrooms, fungal brackets and numerous types of moulds covering all surfaces. All the furniture, a lot of which was antique, was covered in mould and fungus.

We urgently contacted the owner of the property and explained the serious nature of the damage. We advised her to contact the insurers. Aridair supplied the contractor with a detailed plan of action for drying and eradicating the mould, which was passed to the loss adjusters and approved.
Part of the Aridair plan of action was to eradicate the mould with heat and dry the building without a major strip-out.

Some plaster boards had to be removed but, due to the controlled even drying process, only severe areas of damage had to be replaced. This resulted in lower reinstatement costs.

Aridair heat at 57° Celsius for four hours had pasteurized the mould, eliminating the need for hazardous chemicals.
